Humanity Forward Applauds Senate Rules Committee for Advancing Bipartisan Electoral Count Reform Act
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Humanity Forward applauds the Senate Rules Committee for sending the Electoral Count Reform Act to the Senate Floor. The 14 – 1 bipartisan vote took place Tuesday afternoon, and notably included vocal support from Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell.
The bill, a product of bipartisan collaboration, establishes the Vice President’s and Congress’s role in certifying the results of a presidential election as purely ministerial and raises the minimum threshold of members required to object to certifying electoral votes from a state to 20%, among other changes.
“Americans should be heartened by yesterday’s development in the Senate, which demonstrates that meaningful bipartisan action that protects the American people is still very possible and must be pursued.”
Paolo Mastrangelo, Head of Policy and Government Affairs for Humanity Forward
“Our democratic institutions will be more secure with the Electoral Count Reform Act, and we thank Senators Collins and Manchin for their continued diligence and hard work,” continued Mastrangelo. “We will continue to support these efforts in the coming months and invest the necessary resources to ensure this crosses the finish line and is signed into law. ”
