BPC, Humanity Forward Announce New Partnership on Crypto and Blockchain
BPC and Humanity Forward will host subject matter experts, industry leaders, policymakers, and other stakeholders to explain key issues and identify possible bipartisan agreement on public policy action.
Washington, D.C. — Today, the Bipartisan Policy Center and Humanity Forward announced a new partnership focused on the opportunities and challenges posed by cryptocurrencies and blockchain technologies, amid increased interest among policymakers to establish regulatory oversight.
“We are excited to partner with Humanity Forward to study and help inform policymakers about the challenges and opportunities that cryptocurrency and blockchain bring,” said John Soroushian, Senior Associate Director for Business and Technology at BPC. “Better understanding these technologies can help increase their potential benefits for the economy and financial system, while minimizing their downsides.”
“The economic potential presented by blockchain technology calls for a deliberate, bipartisan, and informed approach to policymaking,” said Paolo Mastrangelo, Head of Policy & Government Affairs for Humanity Forward. “We look forward to working together with the Bipartisan Policy Center to foster that kind of dialogue among Members of Congress and policymakers across America.”
BPC and Humanity Forward will host subject matter experts, industry leaders, policymakers, and other stakeholders to explain key issues and identify possible bipartisan agreements on public policy action. The work will focus on areas where legislation can help maximize the economic potential of blockchain and cryptocurrency and mitigate risks as seen by recent turmoil in the market.
While some have cast doubt on its future as part of the financial system, many remain convinced that the underlying basis for cryptocurrency—distributed ledger technology and blockchain—still holds great promise for expanding financial inclusion and transforming international payment systems.
The first public event will be held on August 24 and will build off prior discussions BPC has hosted on these topics.
